Glioblastoma. The first time I heard that ominous sounding word was many many years ago. It was when Roger told me how he lost his father to the dreaded disease when he was a small boy and his father a young man. How could we have ever imagined that Roger would succumb to the same illness that robbed him and his sister of a father, and their mother of a beloved husband in the prime of their lives?
I will never forget the moment of Roger's diagnosis. The pain is just as sharp, nausea just as intense. When you’re told that the love of your life has terminal cancer and has 14-18 months to live, your world instantly gets smaller. You are awash in fear and helplessness. Mouths are moving, but you really can't hear what they're saying. And from that moment forward terror grips you and never lets go. Now imagine a world where cancer becomes a thing of the past. Those life-altering conversations never happen. Lives lived fully. I can tell you that it will take all of us working together to create a cancer-free future, so no one has to experience that terror again. With that lofty goal in mind, will you help me rally riders and runners, inspire supporters and motivate volunteers to join us in the fight?
The Anti-Cancer Challenge is a movement of people committed to ending cancer once and for all. Our mission is to raise as much as possible to find cures for cancer, which can be over 100 different diseases.
Anti-Cancer Challenge proceeds go directly to lifesaving cancer research at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. As one of only 47 National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer centers, the innovative research done at UCI is developing new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Roger waged a courageous battle against his cancer but without the amazing staff, doctors, and researchers at the Cancer Center, we wouldn't have been blessed with the 30-months we had. I have such gratitude.
Alone we are strong, and together we are unstoppable. Join us in the anti-cancer movement. Make a donation on my personal page, join our team, and/or tell everyone you know to get involved with the Anti-Cancer Challenge. Let's do this for Superman!
